We're glad you're here
Welcome!
A Family Owned Farm
As young twenty-somethings, we always knew we wanted to do something with the family farm. Although our education and eventual careers took us in other directions, our initial inclination was never very far away. In 2010, we bought half of our family's farm and decided to start growing hops. It was from here that our dream to one day own an estate brewery started to evolve.
Since then, we've gleaned some knowledge, accomplished some goals, and constructed a sound idea of what we wanted our business to look like. We've built a kick-ass brewery in one of two incredible turn-of-the-century barns. In the other, we've created a beautiful space, with an adjacent outdoor patio, for guests to lounge, imbibe, and nibble all day long.

We Pay
A Living Wage
Living Wage Employers are responsible employers who care about their employees and the community in which they live and work. They recognize that paying a living wage constitutes a critical investment in the long-term prosperity of the economy by fostering a dedicate, skilled and healthy workforce.
From a ‘beverage sector’ perspective, we are proud to be included amongst the 14 Ontario craft breweries involved with the Ontario Living Wage Network. There are, however, over 725 different businesses throughout the province committed to paying a living wage; which in Norfolk County, is $19.80/hour.
A living wage is not the same as the minimum wage, which is the legislated minimum all employers must pay and is set by the provincial government. The living wage reflects what people need to earn to cover the actual costs of living in their community. Living wage employers voluntarily decide to pay a living wage and maintain their certification as new rates are calculated for their area on a yearly basis.

Our Manifesto for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
The farm surrounding Charlotteville Brewing Company is organic in its activities and practices. The forests surrounding the farm is natural and defies simple definition, as it’s a complex ecosystem of organisms synergistically thriving at different times during the year. Nothing coming to our land is poisonous, toxic, or threatening to the environment or the people using it.
Putting this philosophy into practice, Melanie, Tim, nor any of the Charlotteville Team will differentiate people based on artificial lines. We will not make decisions using personality, skin tone, religious or spiritual tendencies, differing cognitive or physical abilities, sexual or gender orientations, or ethnic heritages as inputs. We are humans, working with humans, serving humans. Instead, we base decisions of business on minimizing negative environmental impact, and maximizing the personal growth of our customers, our employees, and ourselves.
Our goal is to always tread lightly. Respect everyone who walks in the door and celebrate the diversity that surrounds us everyday.
Our Land Acknowledgment
We acknowledge Indigenous peoples as the original caretakers of the land and waterways on which we live. We also acknowledge that we are located on the Treaty Lands and Territory of the Mississauga’s of the Credit First Nation and the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabe, and Haudenosaunee peoples. We recognize and respect both the written and oral history of the Indigenous nations that continue to inhabit this beautiful land that sustains us all.
We are commit to the teachings of the Two Row Wampum and the One Dish One Spoon Wampum; and our duty to reconcile, learn more and create safe spaces for Indigenous and non-Indigenous perspectives to meet and discuss the issues that matter to everyone. We are committed to the continuous process of the dismantling of colonial approaches and supporting the diversity of Indigenous practices and cultural expression.
